Fulham to sign Baumgartl from PSV - Loftus-Cheek to arrive on loan?

Fulham are on the verge of signing German center-back Timo Baumgartl on a season-long loan from PSV Eindhoven. According to a report by The Athletic, the deal is all but complete. The 24-year-old VfB Stuttgart academy product completed his medical on Sunday night, Fulham will have an option to complete the deal. 

Baumgartl, who has a market value of €5.5 million, joined PSV from Stuttgart last summer in a deal worth €10 million. A former U21 German national defender, Baumgartl struggled at times for PSV last season. The defender managed 13 games in the Eredivisie last season and scored one goal. According to The Athletic, Baumgartl became a primary target after a deal to sign Marlon from Sassuolo collapsed. 

Baumgartl signed - Loftus-Cheek the much-needed midfield reinforcement?

The German defender is unlikely to be the last signing. Fulham are pushing to sign Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek on loan, the PA news agency reported on Monday. Manager Scott Parker believed that adding a defender was the priority, with that fulfilled, however, he is now also keen to add England star Loftus-Cheek to the Craven Cottage ranks.

The 24-year-old has only featured once for Chelsea this term, in the 3-1 Premier League win at Brighton on the season’s opening weekend. The midfielder has spent most of the last 16 months battling a torn Achilles tendon injury.
